Tumblr layout changes

Logging into tumblr after a break and discovering that the web UI has changed.

oh no.

I am a UI designer so I have some thoughts. I don’t hate all of it it but I do feel the old layout had some very well placed elements. Also why is the left menu so wide? It’s so unnecessary. It takes focus away from the content, I think positioning it on the right would have been the better decision. Also, cramming all those menu items together is…weird. Settings don’t need to be that prominent and could have been placed within a sub-menu, activity, messages and inbox could have remained at the top right. The search bar feels misplaced. And why is the create button (the most important button on this site) on the bottom left??…a place where you usually only place things that are not that imporant….like settings.

Did an actual UI designer even look at this?

I have indeed seen that news. Did you know that last week a ship with about 750 migrants on it sank off the coast of Greece? 82 bodies were recovered, about a hundred people were saved, another 500 people are unaccounted for and probably drowned. The vessel may have capsized due to the Greek Coast Guard trying to tow it. Most of the people on the ship were from Pakistan, trying to get to Italy.

Simple Tab Groups allows you to group tabs together and shove them out of sight, which is nice if you’re researching something and don’t want 50 bajillion jstor tabs clogging up your normal browsing session
